Salzburg Cathedral, Salzburg

The site of religious worship for centuries, Salzburg Cathedral still contains the same baptismal font in which Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was baptized. The Baroque cathedral as it stands today was rebuilt in the 17th century, but a church had existed in this same spot since 774. Inside, visit the cathedral museum to see religious treasures, such as the Cross of St. Rupert and the Sacred Dove. Continue to the Cabinet of Curiosities for an exhibit of natural objects and artwork. This exhibit connects to the Long Gallery of St. Peter's Abbey, a 70 m (230 ft) corridor lined with paintings. • After watching Mozart's Birthplace, we went shopping at Getreide Street and walked slowly in the rain for about 15 minutes. It is also known that Mozart was baptized and Karajan's funeral was held. As an adult, Mozart served the Archbishop of Salzburg and served as a pipe organist in the cathedral. The organ, made of 6,000 pipes, is one of the largest in Europe. The church is accompanied by stained glass, but it is very bright because it is made of transparent glass. Frescoes on the inside of the dome, the cross at the top, and the ceiling painting look very clear, and the entire basilica, based on white, looks very beautiful. Admission is free, but we are asking for donations to maintain the building, so we donated a small amount at the exit. In the movie "Night & Day" starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz, locations were held in "Salzburg Cathedral" and "Salzech River". Salzburg is a small city, so when shooting the shooting scene, the sound of the shooting echoed throughout the city. Since the 1980s, the Austrian government has been focusing on the development of the film industry and has attracted film crews from all over the world. Recently, the location of "Mission: Impossible/Rogue Nation" was held at the Opera in Vienna.

  • Great cathedral with beautiful paintings, especially the dome impressed us very much. Admission is free and definitely worth a visit.

  • Lovely cathedral, the architecture is astounding. Free to enter, make sure to take off your hat (there's a sign that says not hats allowed)! Not sure if it's usually the case, but it wasn't crowded at all when I visited (Thursday 6pm, rainy day).
  • Loved visiting for the 10:00 Sunday mass. Spectacular music. Beautiful building: dark at the back as you walk through the Lord's passion and flooded with natural light at the front to ficus on the joy of His resurrection and ascension!
