Trip Planner: Europe / Czech Republic / Bohemia / South Bohemian Region / Cesky Krumlov / Historie mesta Ceský Krumlov
A well-preserved example of a small central European medieval town, walkable Historie mesta Ceský Krumlov is one of the country's major tourist attractions, designated as a World Heritage Site. Hugging the banks of the Vltava River, the town spreads around a 13th-century castle that's famous for combining the finest elements of Gothic, Baroque, and Renaissance architecture. Neglected for many years during the Communist era, the town's rich architectural heritage received a much-needed facelift through a series of major restoration projects over the last two decades. The exquisitely restored old buildings lining the historical center's narrow streets now house trendy restaurants and classy hotels, augmenting the town's fairytale atmosphere with tourist-geared modern amenities. You will not regret it. The town, although small, has a unique charm, which is probably due to the fact that it resisted time and imminent modernisation. A little is due to the position on the sidelines, a little iron curtain, which also frozen the town with cold war cold. On the local Market Square only one tenement house dates back to the 19th century, the history of the others is more than 300 years old. Sometimes they lead uphill, sometimes we go down "head to the neck". There are charming stones forming a harmonious, uniform structure. Almost every one can stand and there is something to admire. It is full of atmospheric shops and various venues, serving, fortunately, mainly beer and local cuisine. Somehow, i actually do not feel nodding here. And another surprising thing; actually, you don't need a guide or city plan here. You just have to get around everything that is the center in the circle of the Venets and the so-called " Latran is a part of the town located under the castle. You will not regret it. Krumlov is one of the most beautiful and best preserved towns of Europe. Unusual, romantic, I do not know only if in the season available ... So try maybe a little outside it. PS. Apart from the strict historic center, do not leave Atelier Seidel... Art lovers also can not miss the egon schiele museum.
Cesky Krumlov is a town of UNESCO World Heritage. Here is second largest castle complex in the Czech Republic and the oldest Baroque theatre in the world. Every time when I come to Czech Republic I have to go there and relax in old lanes walking around...
