Lac Blanc, Chamonix

4.7
#4 of 10 in Nature in Chamonix
Lac Blanc is a glacial runoff lake with cold, pure waters that reflect the peaks in a mirrored pool. It's best known for its hiking, so wear your sturdiest shoes to get the most out of your visit. If you’re an adventurous hiker, you can start from the bottom of the mountain and make a stop at the charming "La Floria Cafe" for a drink. However, if you prefer an easier walk, take the cable car along with a picnic to the lake. Traverse the lake paths for the best vantage point to see the beauty of the “White Lake.” In the late afternoon, the lines for the cable car tend to be shorter. • Too difficult for us, this site is made for well-equipped people (this is our case) but too difficult to access knowing that we may have to cross snow patches so regretfully we will never see it in real life.

  • You can start this hike from different starting points, Télésiege La Flégère, Tré-Le-Champ or Col des Montets. In 2019, the TS La Flégère is in the scaffolding, making it impossible to start. We started our climbing trip from Tré-Le-Champ. We were able to park our car from a spacious parking lot along the road. The climb starts quietly in the forest and allows you to walk quietly but steadily. It was a sunny and hot day, so starting early will not complain. Important: During this route you also encounter a series of steep ladders, good to digest the rise meters quickly, but annoying for those who do not see this sitting. Once above you can explore the Lakes complex and enjoy the breathtaking view over the valley. (Pricey) lunch is possible in the refuge. For our return we opted for another route that leads to Col des Montets. This route has no ladders but has a solid and prolonged decline. If you start on this route, this will bring a solid and one-tone climb. Both starting points are on a 600m apart, along the same road and can be reached from both parking zones.
