  • I did this hike in July 2019 by the way of the Roc Madrieu on the way and the ledge on the way back: I really advise to do in this direction FOR ADULTES, but with ENFANTS make the ledge back and forth (see below)! To get there I really recommend taking the little yellow train and stopping at the Thuès-Carança stop, less than 5 minutes from the beginning of the gorges !!! Rando made with my son of 6 1/2 years (good walker): quite steep slope on the path of Roc Madrieu (1 h climb and 30 min descent) to reach the beginning of the footbridges, but above all very paved, with large steps really complicated to climb or desc endre for a child and very tiring !!! On the way back I made the choice to "brave" the ban on using the ledge (works since 5/07, we can spend the weekend because work site on pause) because my son could not have retyped the way to go, and it was 10 times better !!! Complete descent in less than 1 hour from the bottom of the !!! Bridges: count about 1 hour and a third go - 1 hour and a while back to do them all. We did 1h-1h because the last 2 bridges are really far from the others, without anything special we were told and path is more complicated. Attention the wall sometimes deviates from the catwalks so for my son it was difficult to hold the handrail, I had to hold it sometimes by the hand, not being able to stand alone. Other than that I agree with what was said: it's really a beautiful hike to do, my son really liked the catwalks and the ledge, but he squeased to go on the way to Roc Madrieu. Do not bring his dog (there are ladders !!!), vertiginous avoid the ledge (the catwalks are fine) although my son was not afraid when usually he fears the height. Provide good shoes because it can slip, it's quite stony so sore feet if not good soles. Finally with children you just have to be very vigilant all the time, whether by the path of Roc Madrieu, by the ledge (which in the end is not much more dangerous) or on the footbridges.

  • Medium difficulty route that I would not do with children under 10 years of age or in poor physical form. You park in the paid P (5o for 12h, no less, motorhomes can be overnight for 9o 24h) and you take the road below the stone arch. About 10 minutes of pleasant walk by the river (possibility of bathing in the icy water if it is hot) and the path forks: to the left /in front of the traditional route by the roc de madrieu, to the right crossing a small wooden bridge, the route through the barracks or gorges. I highly recommend doing it starting by the gorges: you have about 30 minutes of climbing with quite a slope by stones but then you reach the throat dug into the rock q is all flat, with stunning views of the background (it gives nothing vertigo and there is a rope on the wall to go safe) and very entertaining. In the end you continue along a very good path through groves by the river and its waterfalls. You pass a metal walkway and the road forks again: to the left, very poorly signposted, the route of the roc de madrieu; on the right the road q leads to The Tibetan walkways and Bridges over the river (a total of 3). Once done the walkways go back and start the turn. We took the road of the Roc to make the circular route and it takes about 1 hour and a half, it has many areas of authentic trekking, all rocks by which you go up and down, further down q climb in doing so in this direction, the way here must be very suffered. EYE if you go with dog: they pipe it running, climbing and bathing but the walkways, all but 1, have hand stairs, so you take it in your arms to climb them or you won't be able to pass with them. 100% recommended since the views and the river are spectacular. About 5 hours in total stopping to eat and bathe.

  • Attention !!! I agree with all the others that this hike is breathtaking, BUT please consider the following advise : when you need to decide in the beginning to cross the bridge on the right hand side or to just go straight, I strongly advise not to go straight. It is extremely dangerous, I could just do it half way and i doubt it can be done without professional equipment... So, just cross the bridge in the beginning of the gorge and you will have a nice trip with lots of adrenaline!
  • This was an excellent hike. Lots of criss crossing the river below on metal boardwalks, walking along paths that have literally been carved out of the vertical cliff face, as you steadily climb the valley, until you finally emerge on alpine pastures. This is where we stopped, but you can keep going to a refuge and then on again into Spain. I will definitely be going back here. An amazing place.
