Resting on an artificial island over the Regnitz River, Altes Rathaus, Bamberg's historic town hall, is one of the city's most iconic landmarks. According to legend, the citizens of Bamberg took ram stakes into the river to build the hall when the bishop refused to grant them any land for it. The building received its impressive Baroque and Rococo frescoes during the 18th century. Pass through large arches as you cross the bridge to the building, which divides the hillside Episcopal city from the bourgeois island city. Inside, you can visit the prestigious Rococo Hall and the Ludwig Collection, which includes precious porcelain. Within the framework of our 10th anniversary, we were for a few days in the beautiful city of Bamberg. At the gorgeous weather we daily are to run through Bamberg and have seen and visited many places of interest. Of course, the old town hall on the upper bridge of mill among the highlights. Here, small Cafés, where you can relax well are on every corner. Sometimes you have to be the impression in Japan. Countless guests from all over the world pass through the city here. Bamberg is always worth a visit.View original -
The old town hall is interesting with its position in the center of the Regnitz River; and architecturally with the combination of stone, half timber, and colorful fescos on the sides. Really this par... more »

For me, this beautiful yet small building was the crown jewel of the quaint, lovely town of Bamberg. To get the best view of the Altes Rathaus, cross over to the Geyerswörthsteg bridge – this is where you will see the iconic yellow façade of the building. I would recommend visiting on a summer morning – the crowds are not so bad, so you can get some nice photos, and if it is a nice day, the water will be a vivid emerald green. If you’re lucky, you might also see some athletes in small boats navigating the rapids caused by the river’s strong current in this specific area. You won’t spend too much time looking at this building from the outside, but it is something that, if visiting Bamberg, you cannot afford to miss.

Altes Rathaus which means Old Town House is the centre of attraction in Bamberg and for a good reason. Though I found the experience underwhelming I was still impressed because I had read about the history of this place. The bridges (there are 2-3.. One being the Geyerswörthsteg) are a sight for sore eyes and you can spot the "Venice of Germany" in action in the waters below the bridges. If you want to capture the photographs of Altes Rathaus like you see on the travel blogs then I suggest you to go onto the bridge full of flowers.
