Berliner Dom, Berlin

4.5
Don't miss a chance to see the city from the dome of Berliner Dom, one of the region's major landmarks. This imposing structure stands as if frozen in time centuries ago. But the building actually suffered massive damage during World War II and underwent extensive renovation in 1994. The biggest church in the city, this Renaissance building serves not only as a Protestant house of worship but also as a concert hall and a museum. Inside, you can see a lavish marble altar and royal tombs. The organ, with more than 7,000 pipes, often plays a starring role in concerts. Pick up an audio guide at the entrance, or arrange for a private tour of the cathedral before you make the trip. • Its location opposite the former Royal Palace is spectacular and touching the River, but... every time we went was closed. You have a very tight schedule of visits and the times we were in their vicinity are not lucky. so my opinion is only on the outside.

  • Absolutely beautiful church, with a magnificent view over Berlin from its Dome. It'll cost you €7 to get into this church, but as the inside is beautiful already, take the stairs to the top of the dom...  more »
  • Lots of history. Grandiose, great architecture and great views. Lots of people but does not feel crowded. Extremely interesting from an historical perspective. You cannot bring your back pack inside, ...  more »

  • Awesome place. I took so many nice photos there. Even the prototypes are art pieces. As a detail i loved the bee hives on the terrace. Entrance is not free as usual. I think it was 7 euros to enter. You can use your museum pass if you have purchased it.
  • Overpriced entry. Definitely the exterior is better than the interior. I wouldn't waste my money again here. I would definitely recommend you take a stroll around the Lustgarten and admire the architecture from the outside and enjoy the views, mostly if you are short on money and time.
  • One of the best monuments to visit in Berlin with a panorama rooftop! This is also buried place of the Kaisers of Prussia, so you will find their lives, a bit of german history! The dome in the center of the cathedral is huge and is because of it that this monument is famous! Do not miss it! It’s not free, but you won’t regret!
  • A huge and beautiful church at center of Berlin. Opposite is a big park where you can seat and have a good view to this church. Try some photo shoots from the park.
  • It’s as beautiful inside as it is outside. I recommend going up into the dome just before sunset to get a spectacular view of the city. The actual cathedral is grand and offers so many detailed pictorials of the stories of the Bible. The pipe organ was built and designed specifically for this church and its acoustics. If you’re there when they start a service, you’ll get a chance to appreciate it fully. (Just do not take photos at all of the actual service.) Don’t skip the crypt as you’ll be amazed at the differences in each sarcophagus. Why were some so elaborate and others, while in marble, so simple? The deterioration is saddening too. But, the ones deteriorating the most may help you answer the question of details and materials.
