#1 of 104 in Shopping in Berlin
Kaufhaus des Westens (KaDeWe), the largest department store in the world, houses eight floors of merchandise. The elegant building was erected in 1905. Peruse dozens of high-end brands at the aptly named Luxury Boulevard on the ground floor. Then, head upstairs to check out state-of-the-art electronics and home decor. Don't miss having lunch in the glass-enclosed winter garden restaurant. It's on the top floor and overlooks the famous Wittenbergplatz. • Unfortunately I had imagined something the "largest" department store in Europe. You come down and runs only once on a pink carpet through the cosmetics Department and sees only expensive brands such as CHANEL and DOIR...auf the Middle floors give it then ordinary clothing brands and at the top there's the gourmet Department then. Everything nice and gut...aber only to the look and not shopping - unless the man has a big purse =)

  • You can already enjoy a walk through the deli Department. Two latte macchiato, sweet four trifles and 14,60 euros later we made a hook on our list. On the next trip to Berlin will be up there for fancy beers from the cooling search, we don't need the rest.

  • The food court in this prestigious mall like like anything you've seen. It has the atmosphere and quality of an expensive restaurant. Everything from food choices to tables and silverware have a touch of finesse. Cleanliness and service at it's best. Wood everywhere, designer lighting and overall upscale finish all around. And yet it's a food court, but quite an upscale one to match the overall quality of this trademark shopping center.
  • Brands and good quality in every section. Huge shop on many floors. Probably interesting to people who haven't visited that many huge, fancy shops with all international brands. Place I go to, when I need something rather specific you don't get in other shops. They have a childcare section, where you can leave your kids playing and taken care of while shopping. Specially interesting area is the food section, where amongst many other things from all over the world, you can have oisters and champagne ;-) You can easily bump into quite famous German people shopping here
  • Really enjoyed my trip to this store. It reminded me of a John Lewis in the UK. However there was more home made produce and an interesting selection of items. The store is pretty big so takes a while to see everything. The food section is the most interesting whether it the chocolates, alcohols or meats. Only reason it's not 5* is that the items are a bit pricey which compared to smaller shops seems a bit out of place.
  • Spotlessly clean department store with every material possession you could ever possibly desire. The food hall was my favourite part with loads of authentic German cuisine. At the top of the escalators keep going right to the back and at that bar you will find one of the best currywursts in Berlin.
  • Great store, it has pretty much anything you'd want in it, ranging from plates, to watches, to clothing, to pens of a grand. Comparable with Harrods but a lot bigger. The food and wine departments are great too and there are a couple of tables in the restaurant that have a mad view over the city. My only complaint was that it takes ages to get down from the top floor if there is no lift available.
