Potsdamer Platz, Berlin

3.8
#1 of 16 in Neighborhoods in Berlin
An ever-expanding shopping and commercial area, Potsdamer Platz was once trapped in the no-man's-land dividing East and West Germany. At one of the busiest traffic intersections on the continent, the square now attracts visitors with its ultra-modern glass and steel architecture. This spot marks the point where the old road from Potsdam once passed through the city wall of Berlin. Almost totally destroyed during World War II, the square became the largest European building site in the 1990s. Near the square, you can explore a cluster of cultural buildings filled with museums, theaters, and art galleries. • Huge sums have been invested here after the fall of the wall and flipped a large area of the city. Oyranoxystes, malls, restaurants cinemas, all here around. The Sony Center dominates the architecture of Many hotels,. the more expensive the the city housed in tall buildings. Embassies minutes. There next and the buildings of the Philharmonic.

  • Potsdamer Platz is one of the major public squares in Central Berlin, and is also a major traffic intersection. Without a doubt one of the highlights of this city. In this square, since the 19th century, it grew an area of great commercial and cultural activity. It was in this place where you installed the first set of traffic lights in Europe, which is still. Potsdamer Platz, as the rest of the city, was bombed by the allies during the last months of the second world war, in what came to be called the great battle of Berlin, which resulted in the almost total destruction of the buildings of the place. Shortly after the fall of the Berlin wall, Roger Waters organized the concert The Wall - Live in Berlin, which took place in 1990 in the "no man's land" that was between Potsdamer Platz and the place de Paris. After the fall of the wall, Berliners were given to the task of rebuilding Potsdamer Platz, which got in the course of less than a decade, but obviously the current architecture of the place does not remember anything to the original. The remodelled square stands the Berlinale, the Berlin International Film Festival develops.

  • Large sqare shopping approved. I would recommend this to ppl that want to spend their time indoors (malls). Otherwise, big sqare with big buildings. Full of history.  more »
