Often chilling and always thought-provoking, Topography of Terror is an indoor and outdoor museum documenting the terror tactics used by the Nazi regime. You'll receive sobering insights into the Gestapo and SS activities that kept the city in a permanent state of terror and repression between 1933 and 1945. If visiting between spring and fall, don't miss the most striking of the site's features: an excavated cellar directly under the remaining stretch of the Berlin Wall. Many political prisoners were tortured and executed here (confirm on the website that the exhibit is open during your visit). You can visit three permanent exhibits about the Nazi years at the site's prize-winning documentation center, which opened in 2010. Explore the site on your own, or join a guided walking tour to learn about the Nazi policies at home and the Cold War tensions felt around the world. Exceptional museum featuring a complete collection of black and white pictures and some film clips documenting the darkest days in Berlin history; the building lies near the former Gestapo Headquarters: from the stark, simple glass and concrete structures, one can see the ancient walls of the destroyed building, a long line of the former Berlin Wall, and above it all the few buildings which survived both ages. Excellent information point for students and WWII experts- we loved this place.

An excellent free museum that provides a very detailed picture of WW2 and some of the horrors of the past using lots of pictures and text. There is also the option to get an audio guide so don’t forget your headphones. You can easily spend a few hours in the museum. There are also some remnants of the Berlin Wall outside the museum which is worth seeing. I would definitely recommend a visit.
