Alte Pinakothek, Munich

#6 of 55 in Museums in Munich
Three museums, each highlighting a different period of art, are housed at Alte Pinakothek. The museums are within walking distance of each other, so you can easily explore all three on foot or by bicycle. First, stop by one of the oldest art galleries in the country. It houses a collection of at least 800 masterpieces from the Middle Ages to the end of the Rococo period. Look for works by Durer, Rubens, and da Vinci, among others. Next, visit the gallery that displays about 400 paintings and sculptures from the 19th century. Highlights include works by Monet, Degas, and Renoir. Finally, explore the gallery opened in 2002 to display a vast collection of modern art. Here, you'll find notable pieces by Picasso, Kandinsky, and Warhol. Purchase a day ticket for all three museums online. Put Alte Pinakothek at the forefront of your travel plans using our Munich online day trip planner .

  • I think everyone will find the Hall, or canvas that will inspire. So a varied collection that is simply not possible, not zagljadetsja and not understand as art. Dimensions of paintings from the smallest, but conceding nothing to the most awe-inspiring works.

  • Great place if you like art. I suggest you start at the top floor and work your way down especially if you are pushed for time. There are lockers for bags so you'll need to have a 2 Euro coin handy. 7 euro for an adult and children free, audio guide is free.
  • My personal favourite when it comes to museums in Munich. Beautiful art, a wonderful cafe and a shop that you could spend a fortune in! Recommendable for everyone coming to Munich that likes old paintings (Baroque, Renaissance etc.). Also, just a little tip: on Sundays, entry is only 1€. (Though, then, of course, there will be more people around.)
