While millions of tourists flock to the city for its world-famous beer festival, few find their way to the tranquil Nymphenburg Palace. Renowned architect Agostino Barelli designed this sprawling, 200 hectare (490 acre) garden oasis, which was completed in 1675. The palace once served as the summer residence of Bavarian kings. The facade was redesigned in the French Baroque style in 1716, and now is about 700 m (2,300 ft) wide. You can visit both the gardens and their several museums. The most notable one, inside the former royal stables, contains one of the biggest horse carriage collections in Europe. Regular guided tours aren't available, but you can pick up an informative audio guide at the site's entrance. We often go for a walk there with our dog or sometimes we go there jogging. It´s also very beautiful in winter and a place you can go with your family and kids. Especially during "Lockdown-times... more »

Nymphenburg Palace is a magnificent Baroque residence in Munich built to celebrate the long awaited birth of an heir. Huge sprawling castle grounds. I was in awe! The grandeur, such opulence of the frescoes and furnishings. Nymphenburg was impressive but also empty. For all.its grand history, the great rooms were uninhabited.

A lovely palace with an even more lovely garden. The canal passes right through it and you can see the swans having a good time. It takes roughly half an hour to walk leisurely in and around the palace. Mind you, entry to the palace is restricted to ticket holders only. Roaming around the garden is free though. Visit this palace on a bright sunny day and I'm sure you'll love it!
