Nymphenburg Palace, Munich

#Garden, #Castle, #Must See
While millions of tourists flock to the city for its world-famous beer festival, few find their way to the tranquil Nymphenburg Palace. Renowned architect Agostino Barelli designed this sprawling, 200 hectare (490 acre) garden oasis, which was completed in 1675. The palace once served as the summer residence of Bavarian kings. The facade was redesigned in the French Baroque style in 1716, and now is about 700 m (2,300 ft) wide. You can visit both the gardens and their several museums. The most notable one, inside the former royal stables, contains one of the biggest horse carriage collections in Europe. Regular guided tours aren't available, but you can pick up an informative audio guide at the site's entrance. • Walked around here and really enjoyed the pathways and beauty of the grounds. It was after all the interior areas were closed, but still worth the visit.  more »
  • I say that the castle is beautiful outside seems a fairy tale but it has two big problems the first is get what is quite complicated because the train what's there is very full even if there is early people have to go p plowed all the way in. More than two hours, reaching the Castle queue for tickets is very long to purchase them. Once co oras tickets you allocated an hour for. Enter inside and very few people enter by explanation already to the Durex explanation we reached about 11 o'clock in the morning and the tour's explanation was to 5 in the afternoon so we decided to not enter the interior of the castle must say I saw it sita abroad and the set is very nice. The return should take care because to return to the place where you take the train is very poorly marked by so we had to ask several times. Take into account that even if we travel in low season queues were terrible but the Castle well worth

  • I have not visited the Palace because he does not arrive in time, (closed at 18 o'clock), so I dedicated myself to walk through the gardens, which are impressive. There are also small palaces that can be purchased along with your entry.

  • Stunning palace! Well worth a visit! The interior of the great hall is amazing. The place can be very crowded at times so maybe it would be better earlier in the morning. The grounds are beautiful and you could walk for over an hour. It would be great for a picnic etc. Be aware all liquids are forbidden inside but may be stored in a locker. The palace itself isn't very big so I felt a little underwhelmed but the gardens made up for it. Make sure you have your ticket throughout as I lost mine and couldn't visit the botanical gardens
  • I only went around the grounds, which are beautiful. There are formal gardens, woods and parkland. The first of the two pictures I have posted shows, I hope, the length of the formal garden. The palace, toward the top centre looks far away because it is. The second picture was taken by the lake near the pagoda. It shows wasps, I think, feeding on moss on a rock at the water's. This fascinated me as you can tell. You can walk round these grounds for days, sadly I only had a few hours. Loved it
  • Well worth the visit. Can spend and entire day here as the grounds are huge. The stables are very interesting, you can see beautiful Cinderella style carriages. Also the chapel on the grounds is very unique, all made of shells and coral decorations on the inside. Note that it's only open during certain time of the year.
  • Beautiful palace and amazing park with wild deer. Excellent for running and walks. The castle itself is beautiful as well. However, I don't think it's particularly well suited for visits with younger kids. My toddler daughter was all excited about going to the princess castle, and then was disappointed by the austerity of the interior.
  • The palace is stunning. It is a wonderful place to roam around and enjoy the architecture and the gardens / plants / flowers / birds. The overall area is huge and the palace itself lies in the middle. There are vast gardens in front of and behind the palace. The ones accessible from inside are really stunning with fountains and seat to relax by the side.
