Germanisches Nationalmuseum, Nuremberg

4.4
Germanisches Nationalmuseum-- Germany's largest museum of cultural history--houses an enormous collection of German cultural and art objects from prehistoric times to present day. Some highlights include the Cloth of St. Gereon, the oldest European tapestry still existing, plus portraits and paintings by Albrecht Dürer and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner. Most displays contain text only in German, and the layout can be a little confusing. Regardless, the quantity and quality of the collection makes this worth a stop. With our world travel planner, Nuremberg attractions like Germanisches Nationalmuseum can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • Visited two days ago, admission free maybe because Sunday, great and fascinating Museum between old and new rooms, beautiful collection of weapons of 1700/1800 clothing and jewelry, porcelain, and tools for common uses, then c is really sacred art statues painted guns of everything. Also a nice bar with guys who play live classical music. Also nice the shop interior

  • Great Museum with interesting exhibits, paintings, sculptures, etc. We were there for over 4 hours and will once again visit this Museum in any case. Big plus: on Sunday, admission is free! Insider's Tip: necessarily eat in the Museum restaurant a little something (very matter of taste and delicious done!)

  • Is not well traced. There is not air condition, therefore some rooms are very warm and smelly. Not enjoyable to actually stay and enjoy it. There is not a clear tour, not easy to understand. If is not with the tour is quite impossible to enjoy the or event understand the amount of exhibitions. Not even ambiance music to do it a little more interactive. After an hour and a half, I was tired of being there. Not enjoyable even though the material is worth the visit.
  • Great items on show and a massive museum. Can spend all day in there. They cover Roman to post war. The tickets are good too, I think it was €10 for an adult and something like €5 for a student. My main complaint is that even with the audio guide, the information they give about the pieces is very un-interesting. They rarely say who used it, when it was from, what it was used for and a that. I think I only found the Roman section most interesting because I had some existing knowledge on it. It's a shame because it has such potential to be good. Also the cafe is very expensive.
