Trip Planner: Europe / Portugal / Central Portugal / Lisbon District / Lisbon / Carmo Archaeological Museum
See ruins of Carmo Archaeological Museum, Lisbon's only church built almost entirely in Gothic style, which was destroyed by the 1755 earthquake. Today the site serves as an archaeological museum. Completed in 1423, the church was said to be the most lavish and imposing in the city at the time. Today you can tour the interior to see its remains and visit exhibits of various artifacts, architectural adornments, and noteworthy excavated items. View tombs of notable persons, such as King Ferdinand I, and see statues, Spanish-Moorish tiles, findings from the Roman and Visigoth periods, and relics dating back to 3500 BCE. We hung out a bit but in 30 minutes you saw everything, the ruins that are limited to what is in the photos and the small museum. The whole visit is not worth the entry price of 5 euros. For the same price there are more interesting things to see in Lisbon. Luckily, we arrived at the right time and didn't wait to get home as there were few people (between noon and two)
Интересное место, практически без туристов. Впечатляет разрушенный свод и общая архитектура. Внутри небольшой археологический музей, довольно интересная экспозиция. more »An interesting place, almost without tourists. The ruined vault and the overall architecture are impressive. Inside is a small archaeological museum, a rather interesting exhibition.
Absolutely stunning. I strongly recommended that you visit the Lisbon Story Center first so you can fully appreciate the history behind the church that acts as the site of the museum. Take your time taking in not only the exhibits, but the remarkable architecture and historical significance of this church/museum.
Not long line getting ticket and info the site. The site is stunning! Very worth visiting. It’s also great not too packed inside unlike other attractions.
