Casa Batllo, Barcelona

4.6
#1 of 109 in Museums in Barcelona
Located in the bustling city center and considered one of architect Antoni Gaudí’s signature works, Casa Batllo can perhaps best be described as a combination of Modernist and Art Nouveau architecture. Gaudí’s design goal seems to have been to avoid straight lines—completely. Much of the facade is decorated with mosaics made of broken ceramic tiles, ranging in shades from golden orange to greenish blue. The roof is arched and often described as resembling the back of a dragon or dinosaur, so it’s not surprising that most locals call the building "House of Bones." Originally built for a middle-class urban family, this is one of two Gaudí houses available for touring. Skip the lines by booking your tickets online. • In advance to book on the Internet is cheaper. Another atmosphere, small but with a close fought and Mila. Nuance is a tinge more beautiful.

  • We loved Casa Battlo and was probably one of the highlights of barcelona. It was reasonably priced. If you book online it’s cheaper which we did when we arrived at the destination on our phone. We got...  more »

  • It is lovely! And the staff is attentive. When I went I bought my ticket online and it accidentally charged me for an extra ticket but the staff remained in contact with me and refunded the money for the extra ticket. Buy your tickets online ahead of time because the price is higher at the door. It is a bit expensive to go in but it is a price that is worth paying because it is beautiful and enchanting. It is like being in a fairy tale house and the roof has a beautiful view of Barcelona. You can also get an audio tour guide and if you’re a fan of history or architecture it is so worth it!
  • Loved the experience. Peculiar thing to notice during your visit. When you start going up the stairs you'll notice that on both sides of the lift there is a skylight and the walls are tiled with light colours at the bottom going darker as you reach the top to absorb the light better. As you reach the top floor you'll notice the two corners at the top are decorated in such a way that they reflect light. But if you look at the two corners on the other side you'll notice that only one is decorated and reflects light. The staff didn't have an answer as to why that is, so hopefully they'll answer my email I have sent them asking why that is.
  • First stop in Barcelona. We had the basic ticket which was sufficient enough to get the idea of what it was about. You’re able to tour the rooms at your leisure. The architecture is amazing and inspiring. Attended with my grandma who needs a little help with stairs and accessibility. There is an elevator that you can take and stop at each floor, explore and then hop back on and keep going up. The best part was the top where the view was breathtaking.
  • So wanted to give this a better review but based on the ticket price, this visit wasn't value for money. At 57€ for two tickets is quite a price. We only discovered you could book online for a small discount after we paid. It was odd to think that we paid so much money for an attraction that makes money from the Gaudi name - a man that lived a very frugal life. I completely understand that this attraction gets no funding but the sheer volume of people moving through, it must still generate a significant income.
  • This was an excellent stop and worth every minute. The attention to detail and the craftmanship within the house is exquisite. The wood work alone is amazing to few, touch and take in. The flow and design of the house is something I doubt you will see anything else as functional anywhere else in the world. The tile works wall, everything was amazing.
