Discover picturesque landscapes at Monasterio de Piedra, a tranquil and scenic park that surrounds a partially ruined ancient monastery. Its deep, reflective lakes, caves, lush forest, and waterfalls, including one over 50 m (164 ft) high, make it an oasis in an otherwise arid area of Spain. Listen to birds singing and try to spot the native deer, rabbits, and boars. Head to the monastery, founded in 1194, and learn how the first piece of chocolate made in Europe was created there. Some of the paths in the park are tricky and may not be suitable for those with mobility issues. The park is very well maintained and the visit to the monastery very interesting. We took out the tickets a day before online because there was something better coming out of price. If you take them out on the same day there is no discount.
This place is an oasis in an otherwise barren environment! The site offers spectacular waterfalls amidst lush green. It's advisable to plan your visit during a week day because in weekends you may not be the only tourist ☺. Spaniards tend to arrive by the busloads on Saturdays and Sundays. Due to the abundant presence of water and green, the Monasterio is a cool place in the summer morning. An ideal destination!
The waterfalls are beautiful and it's amazing to walk beneath them. Cool and shady forest so you don't get too hot during the walk. At the entrance they take pictures of you with a cute little owl called Juanito. You can buy them at the end for €10 but reducing price if you buy more.
