The former capital of the Kingdom of Ladakh, Leh possesses a historic old town area marked by stupas, monasteries, and traditional mud-brick houses.Step out of Leh with an excursion to Hemis Monastery in Hemis--about 1h 5 min away. There's still lots to do: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Thiksey Monastery, see the interesting displays at Hall of Fame, don't miss a visit to Confluence of the Indus and Zanskar Rivers, and pause for some photo ops at Shey Monastery.
