The capital city of the region of the same name, Grodno (also called Hrodna) was built around the river flowing through it, and is known as a hub for the arts celebrating both modern and classical culture with three major theaters, a philharmonic society, and a multitude of museums.
Venture out of the city with trips to Zhyrovichy (Sacred Spring & Zhyrovichy Monastery), Ruzhany (Church of St. Peter and Pavel, Urbanovich Monument, & more) and Navahradak (Navahrudak Castle, Catholic Cathedral of the Transfiguration, & more). The adventure continues: take in the architecture and atmosphere at The Jesuit Catholic Church, learn about wildlife with up-close encounters at Grodno Zoo, take in the spiritual surroundings of Kalozha Church Boris-Gleb Church, and see the interesting displays at The Watchtower of the fire department and a Fire Museum.
