Gomel is the administrative centre of Homiel Voblast and with 526,872 inhabitants (2015 census) the second-most populous city of Belarus. Step off the beaten path and head to Peter and Paul Cathedral and The Chapel and the Burial Vault of the Paskevich. Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Kozel-Poklyovskih Castle and Memorial Sign of Concentration Camp Prisoners. Step out of Gomel with an excursion to Vetka Museum of Old Believers and Belarusian Traditions F.G. Shklyarov in Vetka--about 50 minutes away. There's still lots to do: admire the striking features of Palace of the Rumyantsevs and the Paskeviches, make a trip to Observation Tower, take in the views from Bauman Bridge, and see the interesting displays at Criminalistics Museum.
