Tiraspol ©
Tiraspol is internationally recognised as the second largest city in Moldova, but is effectively the capital and administrative centre of the unrecognised Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (Transnistria). Tighina Military Cemetery and Bendery Fortress will appeal to history buffs. Step off the beaten path and head to Noul Neamt Monastery and Transfiguration Cathedral. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Tiraspol: Old Orhei Archeological Complex (in Trebujeni), Castel Mimi Wine Resort (in Bulboaca) and Saharna Monastery (in Rezina). The adventure continues: steep yourself in history at Eternal Flame, pause for some photo ops at The Tank Monument, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Church of the Holy Joachim and Anna, and take in the history at Chitcani Bridgehead.

For traveler tips, maps, other places to visit, and tourist information, you can read our Tiraspol trip itinerary builder tool.

If you are flying in from Sweden, the closest major aiport is Chişinău International Airport. Finish your sightseeing early on the 5th (Sun) to allow enough time to travel back home.
